THE ORIGINS OF PUMPUM

The word pumpum came with our African heritage to the shores of Jamaica and is now a part of our local dialect 'patois' or, as we prefer to say, our Jamaican language. Pumpum means that part of the female anatomy that is most treasured by us women, the vagina. However, it has been thought of as a derogatory slang word associated with the lower echelons of society. We seek, through artistic expression, to change this narrow minded outlook by embracing the beauty and importance of Pumpum and hope to generate a renewed respect and honour for our women and people through self love, self worth and self empowerment.

Pum  Pum  Poetry defined is the story of womanhood.  Perspectives on aspects of existence that affect our Black women.  All women.  All humanity.  Sex and Society.  Sex and Spirituality.  Sex and Environment.  Rights of our children.  Gender relationships.  Family.  Self Esteem.  Pride.  Humility.  Love.  Peace.  PUM PUM POETRY is the story of existence, change, evolution and advancement.  You are welcome to explore.

PUM PUM ANTHEM

What is it
That has the power
To open and bloom
Creation’s flower
Pure and precious and
Prepared to be
The vessel of
Fertility
The entrance to
The hidden key
The mystery of humanity
It is
Pum
Pum pum
Pum pum, pum pum, pum pum

Purt and pretty
Pride of place
The crowning glory of the
Human race
Deep, dark
Warm, wet
Ignites the spark
That penetrates the dark
Shower your seeds
Blessings to flow,
Grow
And blossom into babes
Man
You got it made
It’s just

Pum
Pum pum
Pum pum, pum pum, pum pum

What is it that man would
Kill for
Even take against your
Will or
Steal his best friend’s
Wife
And know seh
Him a risk him
Life
So man just
Wake up
And you take heed
If it’s something that you need
And
If it’s something that
You love
Den mek sure
Handle
With kid glove
With responsibility
And stop the spread
Of  HIV
Spread love.
